The pattern Laziness that I made is inspired by La Paresse, a print made by Félix Vallotton on display at the Met. The units in this pattern depict a naked woman laying on her bed while playing with her cat, which is the same as the image portrayed in La Paresse. The imagery embraces nudism which is the most natural and comfortable state of human beings. The medium is digital and I used Adobe Illustrator to create it. My pattern is intended to be printed on either wrapping paper or comfortable fabrics. On wrapping paper, the decorative pattern generates a sense of calmness. Meanwhile, the ultimate purpose for this pattern is to be made into fabrics that are comfortable to our skin like silk or cotton through fabric printing, patchwork-making, or even traditional weaving. The fabrics can then be used to make pyjamas or robes which always touch our bodies directly thus the image and the purpose are consistent. The idea is to create coziness and tranquility both physically and psychologically for people who look for comfort, calmness, and relaxation at home.
